Having adequate
long-term care insurance is the single most influential determinant of whether an individual will have a financially secure retirement.
Employee Benefit Research Institute study, Benefits.News.com 2/1/04
Myth: My health or disability insurance will cover my long-term care.
Fact: Many people incorrectly believe “other health insurance” will pay for their long-term care. The truth is surprising: long-term care is NOT covered by other kinds of insurance, including your HMO, health or long-term disability insurance. Generally the long-term care insurance you typically purchase on your own is the only way to cover day-to-day personal care assistance when you are unable to perform everyday activities like bathing and dressing.
Why plan for long term care now?
- The cost is increasing
- The cost of insurance increases with age
- Health changes may make you ineligible
